As part of all our 4wd tours you
have the option of Walker Family Tours conducting a 30 minute
guided walk at Bloomfield Falls where you will learn about Aboriginal
history and the culture of Australia's Indigenous people.
The Bloomfield Falls is the traditional home of the Kuku
Yalanji people who have lived in the area for tens of
thousands of years. The Walker Family are members of the Yalanji
community and their connection with the Bloomfield Falls and the
surrounding land is one of deep significance. It is a wonderful,
intimate encounter with Aboriginal Australia.
The Full Day
Cooktown 4WD Safari
Go off-road with me to Cooktown via the famous Bloomfield
Track, well known since Council Bulldozers pushed it through
the Daintree Rainforest in spite of protesters in 1983. The Bloomfield
Track starts just north of Cape Tribulation, which is itself 36
kilometres north of the Daintree River in Far North Queensland,
Australia.
The track continues for 32 kilometres through rugged terrain
to the Bloomfield River, and from there we continue through the
aboriginal town of Wujal Wujal and on through Bloomfield. We pass
through the Cedar Bay National Park, Rossville and Helensvale
before our noon arrival in Cooktown.

history on a guided walk at Bloomfield Falls with Walker Family

We aim to give you at least two hours in Cooktown, but
usually we can offer up to three hours. Road conditions are usually
the deciding factor. Cooktown is friendly to the walker and most
places can be reached by foot. Your guide will be happy to drop
you off at the more distant spots like Nature’s Powerhouse
should you wish to visit. We carry a number of publications about
the history of Cooktown and these can be used as reference for
those who have particular historical interest. ‘Pubs and
Publicans of Cooktown’ is always popular!
Cooktown is a beautiful town, unspoiled by mass tourism,
and has a rich and exciting history, both Aboriginal and European.

The ½
Day “Waterfall” 4WD Safari
Go off-road with me on the famous Bloomfield Track, well
known since Council Bulldozers pushed it through the Daintree
Rainforest in spite of protestors in 1983. The Bloomfield Track
starts just north of Cape Tribulation, which is itself 36 kilometres
north of the Daintree River in Far North Queensland, Australia.
The track continues for 32 kilometres through rugged
terrain to the Bloomfield River, and a road continues to Cooktown
from there. There are no houses or farms in this area, just the
magnificent Daintree National Park coming right down to the Coral
Sea, meeting The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. This is truly
wilderness.
The ½ Day Tour takes in the best scenery between
Cape Tribulation and the 40m Bloomfield Falls. We travel by air
conditioned Toyota Landcruiser and stop regularly to admire the
views and experience the area. Only 8 are taken in each group.
As much time as possible is spent outside the 4WD.
Highlights include:
- Expert commentary from your experienced local guide
- Emmagen Valley – here we explore the Rainforest and
view the mighty Strangler Fig
- Donovan’s Lookout – spectacular vista to the
north, only rugged and beautiful coastline can be seen, with
nothing man-made to spoil the scene
- Cowie Beach – we walk on this amazing beach where the
trees not only grow down to the water, they grow in it!
- Woobadda River – a delicious morning tea is served
here and you can relax or have a swim in the fresh mountain
water
- Bloomfield River – this lookout is a great place to
spot crocodiles sunning on the bank, but not so good for swimming
…
- 40m Bloomfield Falls – the ultimate destination and
well worth it
